So 12 hours ago I was freezing my ass off during the US - Mexico World Cup Qualifier at Crew Stadium. And now I'm at my place of employment.
Revelation: I'd rather be the only one in Sam's Army wearing shorts in some "end of the world" type weather than all warm and cozy in my office at work. Shocker right?
So the Red, White, and Blue did it again. Mexico just can't get anything going on US soil in the soccer/football/futbol world. Too bad. It's like Groundhog Day for El Tri. They keep showing up and losing 2-0 to the Yanks. See you next time losers.
This and That: Saw some Mexican fans wearing shirts that said "You can't deport all of us". It wasn't that they were wearing the shirts so much as it was that they were trying to entice US fans into something. Interesting move.
The worst thing about driving back from Columbus is that I never really know how long it's gonna take to get home. I might as well be driving on the Moon or something. I have no grasp of time and distance while I'm going back and forth between West Virginia, Pennsylvania and back to WFV. I don't know what getting to Cumberland means besides my ears popping. It's not my first time either. I sure as hell hope it was my last.
I don't want to hear anybody say that Michael Bradley is only on the US team because of nepotism. Sure he scored the goals, but he dominated in there. Let's kill that noise.
If the US soccer federation is going to continue to tell fans to wear red to the games, can they make another red jersey? I mean I am stuck wearing that '98 jersey that I associate with an 0-3 tournament failure. Let's work on that.
At around 5:40pm I thought I was going to die. The sky turned black. Then the wind and rain picked up to a level I only thought possible during hurricanes. It was the first time in my life that something like that snuck up on me and I had nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide. The lights at the Stadium went off and I just figured I was going to drown in the parking lot. And then Jay opened up a van and said get in here you idiot. I listened and now I'm around to laugh about it.
There's nothing like singing the National Anthem at a US game. Well I guess singing might be giving most of us too much credit, but you know what I mean.
DMB didn't look like DMB. I don't agonize over his minutes with Rangers but it's my guess that he hasn't been playing a full 90. I thought for sure he was going to be the first sub. He looked gassed and he NEVER looks gassed.
That being said, it's no surprise that the first goal came off of a Beasely - Donovan connection. This squad will go only as far as they take them. They need to be heavily involved in the scoring from now until South Africa 2010.
Kljestan. I thought he sucked, particularly in the first half. I know he had some goals against a team that Sweden fieled a few weeks ago, but c'mon.
I think I'm going to pass out at work. It's just past 8am and I feel like my brain is going to shoot out of my ears if I move too fast. This could be messy.
