na gonna play in this tournament anymore

I have Progressive Auto Insurance. Their commercials make me want to get another policy. I can't stand Flo. She reminds me of one of those annoying slugs from the Mall that works at a stand, not a store, but a stand, and hassles you as you just walk by minding your own damn business.

No I don't want to learn Russian from a CD. I came here to get a pretzel and buy some shoes.

Well Serena just took care of Li Na 7-6, 7-6 to avenge the loss by Venus last night. Well it was actually today but in Australian time. Get it?

I really wanted to see sister vs sister but Venus somehow blew a huge lead. That was a colossal collapse. I'm glad it didn't go 3 sets tonight because they have some doubles competition to take care of later today. I don't know why they would set it up that way. It seems as if it would discourage the better Singles players from entering into the Doubles portion of the Open.

Well you knew that Gallas and Vermaelen wouldn't be able to play every single minute of every single League game this season. Today was the day where that streak ended. The season completely fell apart last season after Gallas went out. You would think that having 3 competent CB's would have been a priority this season. You would think....

Well Donovan scored today. I know it's very popular to bash him for this or for that, but he's looked pretty good so far. He looks as though he belongs playing in a top league. Is that really a surprise? He easily looked like one of the better players at the Confederations Cup. It's ok not to like him but to pretend that isn't any good is straight sauce.

double mint gum

Ok so I'm not a tennis expert or anything but for me, right not at least, the best thing to watch is the doubles. And more specifically, Serena and Venus just railroading other squads.

I like how the announcers talk about their matches. It's not a matter of them winning, it's a matter of how fast. The big concern for both of them is that they play singles on the other day so they want as much rest as possible.

I'm sure there is some sort of intricate total point system involved, but it's an absolute joke that they aren't the top seed. I mean they won 3 of the 4 Slams last year. Somehow that's only good enough for the 2 seed. Another common sense fail in sports rankings.

I just looked up Wikipedia on Wikipedia. I was worried that my laptop might start smoking but it seems ok so far.

It looks like we are getting the first good match of the day. Del Potro and Cilic are going at it in the 1st set. I'll never forget that awkward moment after Del Potro won the US Open where Dick Enberg was thrown off by his request to say something in Spanish to the crowd. It was incredible.

I'm never going to make it for Roddick's match. Seriously how do they do it in Australia? They stay up all night watching tennis and still go to work. That is a brutal schedule. Oh wait...

and the streak continues

I'm loving DirecTV's Austrailian Open Coverage. Particularly the Mix-Channel were you get six matches at the same time. I've never play much tennis, non organized, but I still like to watch the Majors. My interest level isn't the same as when I followed Aggasi but it's still there. My rooting interest is mainly patriotic - Roddick and the Williams sisters - both singles and doubles.

I know it's just a product of 24 hour sports coverage, but there are some people that need to give the Allen Iverson All-Star story a rest. It's a meaningless game AND the fans vote for the starters. It's not like the fans are voting for the All-NBA 1st team or MVP. It's an exhibition. It's not like it's outcome will determine home court for The Finals. I'm looking at you Baseball.

Georgetown has the longest All-Star participation streak in NBA History. Of course they are going to need Jeff Green or Roy Hibbert to pick up the slack pretty soon here. Here is the active list:

85-86 Ewing
86-87 Floyd
87-88 Ewing

neutered the oakland zoo....

Well they have only lost 11 games at the Peterson Events Center since it opened in 2002. Bad news for them is that two of those losses are to JT3 and the Hoyas.

Last year January Pitt came into the Verizon Center and ended the Hoyas 29 game home winning streak. It seems only fitting that the Hoyas ended Pitt's 31 home game winning streak tonight.

After jumping out to a 6-0 lead the game was back and forth most of the night. Georgetown got up 27-20 late in the first half only to end up tied at the half.

Rather then giving you a game story that can be found by some Johnny from the AP, I will give you the big things that I took away from the game.

-Wright, Freeman, Monroe. Pick you poison. Either one of them can erupt at any given time.

-The Hoyas have one of the best starting 5's in the country. The problem is that they are getting little in terms of scoring off the bench.

- That being said, Benimon is really starting to come on as a solid sub. He doesn't score that much but he has really given them some solid minutes off the bench. I can't believe he didn't get called for a charge in the play where he actually got an and 1. He seems a bit lost at times when the team goes to zone.

-Sims just doesn't have it right now. He went in with the score 27-20 and went out with the score 29-29. He left his man on defense and it resulted in 3 dunks by McGhee.

-Hollis needs to play heavy minutes vs Rutgers and get some confidence going. They will need him during their run in March.

-They only seem to have one inbounds play but it always seems to work. Unbelievable.

-Vaughn and Monroe have to be the best passing combination of big men in the country.

I want everybody to come back next year. It would be sick.

philly to pitt...i have no friends in pa

Well I finally saw the Hoyas lose in Philadelphia. I had a pretty good away game winning streak going for me until the other day. I blame the HHC for not being able to get a bus trip going. I'm undefeated on bus trips. Anywhere. (Villanova, Villanova, Villanova, Seton Hall, West Virginia, Rutgers, Rutgers)

I'm starting to grow tired of these slow starts. You can't do that one the road against a top 5 opponent and expect to win.

Moral victories are for losers but I was impressed with their ability to fight back given the foul problems. The offensive/defensive substitutions pattern started really early. Julian had the first two Hoya fouls of the game. Not good.

Benimon got some good minutes. I still want to see more time on the court of Vee. I'm really not sure what is going on with Henry's minutes. He made a poor entry pass and that was it for him until real late in the game.

It was great to see Mark Tillmon sitting with the traveling fans up in 221a. I was also impressed with the student turnout on the other side of the arena.

Did I mention that all Hollis had to do was show up and they win the game? I told the guy next to me at halftime that if they could get 4 points from Thompson they win.

Pitt: Last year Pitt brought Georgetown's 29 game home winning streak to a screeching halt by beating their ass last January. I want nothing more out of tomorrow than for the Hoyas to return that favor.

Contain Gibbs and your life will be a lot easier.

Keep on taking those shots Hollis.

jan 9 gameday

While this year's Hoya teams seems different than that of last year, we will really get a chance to test that theory today.

Coming off a hard loss to Marquette (I say hard because they played well enough to win and had some funky things go wrong), they get to welcome in the always tough U-CON Huskies. I'm interested to see how the guys get themselves out of this one.

Roscoe: As if this rivalry needed anything more, Roscoe Smith announced yesterday that he would be going to play for Jim Calhoun's Laptop stealing Army. I hope he's either at the game today or he is able to watch the game in 3-D somewhere.

Going from Marquette to Connecticut is the basketball equivalent of going from Navy to SMU in terms of styles.

I know Henry Sims is new to the tweeting game so I hope he reads what I just sent out. I hope to get 10 solid minutes out of him today as he progresses with his game.

Alright off to catch the first half of Arsenal - Everton. Thanks to Setanta USA for helping me out for another week. In a perfect world, Arsenal win while Donovan gets on the field.

i'll take down my xmas stuff when you finish bowling

Traditions were made to be broken. The tradition used to be to watch 15 bowl games on Jan 1st and take down your Christmas decorations piece by piece.

Well since the Bowl Season goes until Jan 7th, I see no reason to take down the tree until then. I think it's only a matter of time before the "National Championship" Game is played on MLK Day. Well that's just how long I'll keep Homer Claus up for in my front yard.

FU BCS.

I love listening to Mr. Tony. It's my favorite show on the radio. I have one problem with his show and a commercial I just saw reminded me of that problem.

For some reason he insists on talking about American Idol. It's that time of year again. Major bummer. He does a daily recap. It's probably the only show in America that does one. And I listen to it. Awesome.

Returns:
I returned Fifa 10 for PS3 at Best Buy today because I already owned it.

Nothing noteworthy about that.

But something caught my eye on the receipt as I was walking back to my truck. On the bottom there is a note about preparing for the digital television switch. Yeah it's safe to say that they can stop printing that.

It could be worse. It could have said something about Y2K precautions.

Spam: My current job is coming to an end so I have been sending out a bunch of emails.

To myself.

I think it's awfully ironic that they are going to my spam folder. Nothing like spamming yourself. For my next trick I will probably start calling myself around dinner time begging for donations.

the last Song of the season

Alex Song has had a great season. Today is his last game before he leaves for the African Cup of Nations. I'll be stunned if he returns healthy. I just can't imagine it.

I also can't remember the last time an Arsenal player left on international duty and came back without some sort of horrific injury. I'm looking at your Robin van Persie.

So thanks for all you have done Alex. Diaby will try and pick up your slack the rest of the way.
