An unlikely Hoya - Welcome Jerrelle Benimon

Less than 24 hours after picking up Vee Sanford it looks like the Hoyas are set to use up another one of their scholarships on Jerrelle Benimon.

The skinny:
6-foot-8
Forward
Fauquier High School
AVG: 21 points, 17 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 blocks

Even though the kid is local, I don't have any first hand knowledge from seeing him play. All I know is that I remember reading about him this past season in the Washington Post. He's another one of those kids that didn't get the attention he might have deserved because he didn't play AAU ball.

What I like is that I've been told by people that I trust that he has a high basketball IQ. That is always an important skill to have, but more so when you are playing in Georgetown's offense. It's one thing to average a lot of points against inferior competition, it's another to see the court and make your teammates better when you are the focal point of the other team's defensive game plan.

Impact for next season: This signing will add another big body for the rotation. I expect Monroe and Sims to start at the 4 and 5 respectively. Vaughn and Benimon will be asked to provide them with minutes off the bench. I don't really want to see Nikita at the four spot this season unless a particular match-up is available to exploit. Nikita should see his time at 3 spot.

Is this the last one of the spring? I'd still like for the Hoyas to add Latavious Williams this Spring but that is a wait-and-see situation until his grades and board scores are finalized.

Quote that I really, really like: "I am kind of flying under the radar," Benimon said. "But I think I could definitely play big Division I if I get the chance."
