After another fun session of reading up on the current comings and (mostly) goings of the search for a spot to put a stadium for DC United, I realized that nothing has changed. It was at that exact moment that I decided to come over here Blog Town, USA.
Ok here's the deal.
United needs a stadium and nobody wants to help them pay for it. It's that simple. And by pay for it I mean that nobody wants to even give them loans/issue bonds/whatever type of payback you can think of giving them.
That's ok. It's been like that for awhile.
So that means we have these options:
1. Victor and Will can just pay for the whole damn thing themselves.
2. Victor and Will can sell the team to another investment group that is better at these types of projects.
Or
3. Victor and Will can move the team to a city/area that is willing to build them a soccer stadium.
I posted that a long ass time ago on BigSoccer. Nothing has changed. Since I don't live in DC, I'm not exactly sure when Fenty's term is up. I consider that a major Wildcard Factor since he isn't even willing to let option Number 1 (from above) to even happen under his watch.
I think DC United will most likely stay but I think the team will have to come up with a better deal for whichever area reluctantly takes them on in the end. Footing the entire bill might not be the actual outcome, but it has to be better than their current proposal.
MLS: The worse and worse this deal starts looking for DC United, the more and more I am seeing and hearing people talk about how MLS is partly at fault. We are also getting a lot of people saying how they wouldn't follow MLS anymore. The latter is fair I suppose. The former is not.
If United moves to another destination I won't be blaming MLS. The blame will fall in exactly two places. It will fall on the team that I choose to follow and it will also fall on the general area that I choose to live in.
That's it. That's the list.
I understand the emotional proclamation of swearing off the league until the end of time. I get it. Look I usually do that myself when Georgetown loses in whichever tournament they are in, but it's stupid and it wears off. I love college basketball so I always come back around.
So my MLS watching would be about the same level as it is right now when United isn't playing in a game. I watch a little here and there - more when it's in HD. I like to keep up with some of the guys on US team. I'd also like for the league to do well because it would be better for the US team as a whole. Hey I followed the US team long before there was MLS. I also like to root against the players that I hate. You know, that kind of stuff.

the trail - ffx county style
Well if you know what Brendan has been up to these days, you know that he spent a month on the Appalachain Trail, came home for a few days, and is now back at it for the 2nd consecutive month.
Guess what? We have our very own Cross County Trail right here in Fairfax County.
I had no idea.
I mean I was well aware of the many parks that this place had to offer but, the fact that they were connected was completely lost on me.
CHECK IT OUT
The best part about the above link is that I don't see anything that resembles Camp Crystal Lake on the map.
Win - win - win!

danger, danger
Imagine, if you will, how you feel at work the day after you decided to watch sports at a bar for hours upon hours. Can you picture it? Can you feel it?
Ok now that I have you in that place, I need to make it at least 10 times worse.
My office building is testing their fire alarm system this morning. Awesome huh? If I had more energy I would probably be inclined to dump glasses of water on everybody's desk in an effort to save them. But I'm not feeling it today.
I mean is this really necessary? It's a one story building for crying out loud. If a legitimate fire ever threatened me I would probably just break my window and walk out. It's not like I need to know the proper evacuation route or anything.
If this nonsense doesn't stop going off in the next 15 minutes, I'm going to the gym way before cycle class.
back for me later brah

is anybody surprised?
My TV has seen a bunch of crazy thing grace it's screen since my Mom has been in town. I wasn't in some mad rush to watching tonight's NCAA National Championship game tonight but, because I have a disease, I was gonna watch a little.
Well I had to wait. I had to wait because Mom was watching Dancing with the Stars. That is definitely the first time I've had to watch that show. It was everything I expected and then some. The only thing I took away from tonight's episode is that Lil' Kim looks different from what I had remembered her to look like. Oh well.
Oh right there is a game on right now. Can I say something really quick before me we move on to the garbage on the court? I love being able to blog from the couch. I might just have to break down and get a laptop.
Yeah so UNC is blowing out MSU. Big surprise. I didn't watch much of MSU's last two games, but they were somehow able to navigate their way through Louisville and Connecticut. It's doubtful that either of those teams would have beaten UNC, but it's very likely that they would have at least shown up to compete. What I am watching right now is down right embarrassing. It would have been really nice to see Tyler go out without a championship, but it's not looking good for me on that one.
Roy Williams has always been known, mostly from his days at Kansas, as great recruiter who couldn't win the big games. Well after tonight he will have tied Dean Smith with two National Championships. Hard to believe right? What does that say about Dean? All those years with all of those great players and he only got two. Just something to think about.
Coming into this season there was talk of UNC going undefeated. I'll be honest, I was worried about it. There was no denying that they were the odds on favorites but could they really be the first team since Bobby Knight's 1976 Indiana squad to win every single contest? Luckily the answer to that question is "No".
The one thing I'm envious about with concerns to UNC is their ability to get their good to great players to stay in school. I mean that's the key in College Basketball. Can you get your guys to stick around long enough to declare a major. I don't know what they are doing down there but it's working. I would wish them some bad luck with guys leaving but I'm worried about bad karma that might work it's way back to "you know who" at Georgetown.
For what it's worth, I rooted for UNC one time this year - in their game at Maryland. They failed me. That loss essentially put Maryland into the Tournament. What a nightmare. How they lost that game will never be known by me.
Thanks for nothing losers.
So to review there are two good things about tonight: 1) We aren't watching an undefeated team win the National Title and 2) This is the last time I have to listen to the commentators slurp Tyler like he's Tim Tebow or something. We still have one more season of that guy.
I know it's not a popular opinion but I miss Billy Packer. Clark Kellogg isn't doing it for me. They should have gone with Gus Johnson or Billy Rafftery as the lead color guy. I'm not sure how they came to the decision to promote Clark, but I feel it was a poor one.

i'm only happy when it rains
It's not even 8am and I already feel like I have accomplished way too much on a rainy Friday. I woke up at 4:50am in order to take the 6am Body Combat Class. When you throw in last night's Yoga Class, I'm only in need of two more stickers to complete the contest. I'll probably knock out another one this afternoon and then kill it on Saturday.
The last two night's ESPN2 has shown soccer in HD. That might not seem like a big deal to most but, to me, it's freaking huge. Soccer in HD is pretty rare these days. Both Fox Soccer Channel and Setanta fail to deliver the HD that we all crave. It doesn't happen very often but I must tip my hat to the WWL.
Speaking of the US Men's National Team, I'm extremely happy that Altidore got the start. The team will continue to be very dangerous with Jozy, Freddy, and Donovan on the field. The problem seems to be that Freddy can't get on the field. I imagine we will see him in Gold Cup games this summer. I'm telling you...if you want succes in South Africa, he's going to have to find minutes on the field.
Big Weekend: Like I said earlier, I need to take a Body Pump class in the morning. After that I have my first MoCo soocer game on Saturday afternoon. Then I will find myself going to the United game. Bummer that none of my friends are coming but whatever. After that I'm trying to stop by Nikki's party and my sister's. We shall see about that. Might be semi-impossible to do that last part.
OMG is today over yet? Oh wait. There is talk about taking Grills down to RFK this afternoon with Oscar. Something tells me that that trip will take a LONG time.
ME LOVE YOU LONG TIM
Who's Tim???

21 stickers down...4 to go
We are nearing the end of the Clocktower Gold's March Madness Spring Spectacular. After taking 2 classes in 5 years of action, I'm completely off the charts. I've actually taken more classes than 25 but they broke them down in categories and stuff like that so I'm not done. Man you always gotta play by their rules don't ya?
Ok so I have until 12:30pm on Saturday to take 4 more classes.
Here are the classes I need to complete:
1 more Yoga class - weird flower sticker
1 more Cardio class - penguin sticker
2 more Strength classes - gold star stickers
I think I can knock out the Yoga requirement tonight at 6:30pm. Then we get down to 3 classes in 2 days. If I'm feeling it I'll scratch off one of my Strength classes tonight.
The goal is to get them done by tomorrow. If that happens I'll be able to watch Arsenal on Saturday morning. Cesc, Walcot, and Adebayor are all back in action. I like it. I like it a lot.

oh those crafty redskins are at it again
Do you think it's possible that the Broncos have Redskins Park on speed dial? Or better yet, do you think that the 31 other NFL front offices have a special "red phone" that the use when they need a sucker deal? My answers are Yes and Yes.
Let's review what's going on here: The Broncos have publicly said that they want to deal their starting QB in Jay Cutler. Jay Cutler has said that he doesn't want to play for the Broncos. In most cases this would decrease his trade value. The reason being that other teams know that the Broncos have zero leverage. They have to make the trade. It should be a bargain for somebody right?
This is where Vinny and Danny come in. They are the only knuckleheads on the planet that will still somehow OVERPAY for this so-so NFL caliber starter. Keep in mind that they already have their own so-so NFL caliber starter in Campbell. Let's also not forget that they burned draft picks to trade UP for Campbell.
I'm saying that they send Denver some high draft picks for Jay. I strongly advise against this. Of course now you have a situation where Jason knows they are looking to move on without him. Interesting play going into the last year of a contract.
While not being a franchise that consistently wins under Snyder, they are a franchise that is consistently in the news for junk like this.
Awesome.
