Day 2 of the World Cup was all about an early 4th of July celebration. My thought was to ring in the festivities with a waffle bar but nobody else was game as evidenced by the complete lack of any sort of turnout.
Luckily Brendan and I were able to use out time wisely as we transformed an idea into a reality by redecorating Welcome to Rick's.
Day 2 would also mark the first time that I changed a game pick just before kickoff. I switched a Nigerian win to that of an Argentinian. It worked out well but I generally think it's a bad idea to do that type of thing. I'm confident that it will bite me in the ass before this tournament is over.
What else happened? We saw a commercial for a show called Dance Your Ass Off that showed some incredible promise. It was immediately added to the DVR to-do-list. I mean who doesn't want to watch fat people dance?
Lars Lagerback. We have a winner for the name of the tournament. I could say his name 100 times in a row and find it funny 100 times in a row. I should also point out that I say it a retarded accent. I hope that I've painted you one hell of a picture.
Oh right, that USA game that I talked about earlier. So that finally came on. I was a little upset at the lineup. I'd rather have seen Buddle than Jozy. Torres than Clark. JD and Mike showed up just around this time
Did I mention that I bought an incredible amount of beer with various levels of potency? Well I did.
As everybody knows, England scored real fast thanks to a non-marking situation. My first instinct was to throw my beer bottle at the TV. My second instinct was to tell everybody to relax because the US was never going to shut them out. Sure it was a bummer they scored so quick but it's never a good time to give up a goal. I'm glad that I ignored my first instinct.
It's really hard to watch a game like that. There is so much stress and tension that I'm physically uncomfortable. Getting into halftime at 1-1, you just really wanted the 2nd half to be canceled. Or at least I did.
If there was one thing that would have caused me to destroy my TV in the 2nd half, it would have been watching Crouch do the Robot after scoring a game winning goal. That would have been the worst.
So you grab the point and you move into a "must not lose game" on Friday. Not must win. Must not lose. Big difference.
If you are really feeling it, you are now in a two game goals contest against England. I'm not sure that the US is good enough to think that way just yet. But it would be cooler if they were.
